Consultation and Design Process
I will meet with you at your house to see the site where you want your shed. We need the shed to be at least two feet from any structures so that we have room to work. Any tree branches or other debris that would be in the way must be cleared away before work can begin. If you have an existing shed that needs to be removed, we can do this for you. Ask for pricing.
I will go over the options with you. There are many different ways to customize your shed. I can help you determine what works for your needs.
Next, we can discuss the layout of the building.
Determine the size, such as 10’x10’.
Choose between a Shed or Gable roof.
Determine your roof pitch. Roof pitch is the angle of your roof and is expressed as a fraction. For example, 2/12. The first number tells you how many inches the roof will rise in a foot. So, if your shed is 10 feet wide, and the roof is a 2/12, the roof will rise a total of 20 inches. On shed roofs, we do 1, 2, or 3/12 pitches as standard. 2/12 is the most common. With the gable roof option we offer 2/12 - 7/12. 7/12 is the usual pitch. If you need a higher pitch, we can do this for you as a custom item.
Windows and Door location. This is where we get down to business. The placement of doors and windows is customized to fit your needs. We can accommodate almost any layout. You can choose the basic doors and windows we offer as options, or you can go custom. Windows and doors are items that can be purchased separately by the customer and installed by us. This is one of the great things about our process! You can have any window or door that you want. Keep in mind that whatever you choose, it must be a complete unit. This means a door must have the jamb and hinges attached, and a window must have the frame.
Choose your options. There are many to choose from, so the possibilities are endless. There are some that are popular combinations, so I can help you by showing you what those combinations look like on sheds we have built.
Drawing. After you have selected what you want, I will use those features to make a 3-D drawing of your project. This will depict the layout of the size, shape, roof, and window/door placement. You can even view a cut-away to see inside your shed. This can be done during our meeting. Extensive designs and revisions will require more time.
Sign Contract. When you approve of the design we can sign a contract.
